my first trip

6/27/2006: 5hrs: I got a motor. A little 4 horse/ 4 stroke. God gave it to me more or less. It runs great. I decided to go to Bahia Honda, it has great beaches and it’s about 5 miles away. The wind was blowing out of the SW and BH was east so I got to sail down wind the whole way. The wind was 5mph with small gust up 10, I think. I had the GPS with me for the first time, I was doing about 5 mph most of the way. Not a bad speed with only one sail.

On the way back the wind died and I was getting sucked out to sea. So I just cranked up the motor and started puttering right along. The wind picked up again from the south but only about 2 mph. I put up both sails and just tried to get the most out of the wind as I could. It was fun. I was able catch the wind spilling off my main, which was all the way on the left (port), into my jib which was on the starboard side (right). I was holding the jib out with my hand so I got to really feel the wind push the boat. I and probably only I could have enjoyed it as much as I did. I did that for about 2 hrs down the bogie until I got home.
